I’ve been writing articles about sales in the world of startups for a while. I realized that it would be helpful to have a guide that an entrepreneur could follow to build a sales organization for their company that would have a solid foundation. Like most things in life, building your sales organization on a solid foundation is essential to its long term success.

The steps outlined in this book aren’t complicated and any entrepreneur can complete them for their company. If that’s the route you chose to take, I hope that it provides you with good guidance. However, I would suggest that you consider working with someone who can assist you in completing some or all of these steps.

Working with a consultant who’s been there and done this work may be a much better choice than doing it yourself. As an entrepreneur, your time is your most valuable asset and it is finite. We all have 24 hours in every day, and every hour you spend doing a task that could be delegated is an hour you’re not doing something that only you can do. The opportunity cost is something I’ve written about here.

So this book is a distillation of those years of experience, of all the successes and failures along the way. I hope that it can help entrepreneurs avoid some of the pitfalls I’ve encountered in my career.
